Bradley Tennis Academy

Habitat: Let’s start with you. What got you into tennis?
Kevin: My older brother used to play. One day he gave me a racket and the rest is history.
Habitat: Was it something you were a natural at or did you always have to work at it?
Kevin: Both. Coordination and movement was more natural, but I had to work hard on putting it all together.
Habitat: At what point did you realize you had a future in tennis?
Kevin: At 14, I was winning a bunch of tournaments. 18 months later, I was #3 in a 6 state region.
Habitat: You played D1 tennis and toured on the challenger circuit, what was that experience like?
Kevin: D1 – great experience. Beautiful campus (USD), great team and coach. The Challengers was a different story. Not very glamorous. Some nice spots mixed with some towns in the middle of nowhere. It was a constant grind, though. I was always fighting to move up in the ranks.
Habitat: Any crazy experiences in your travels?
Kevin: I got locked out of my hotel in Italy, so I had to break in by free-climbing the building and using my belt to swing in.
Habitat: Nice job Indiana Jones.
Kevin: (Smiles proudly)
Habitat: Internationally speaking, do chicks dig tennis players?
Kevin: Absolutely. Let’s leave it at that.
Habitat: I know you have been a teaching in Las Vegas for a while now. Tell me about your program.
Kevin: I have programs for all ages. My junior academy in particular focuses on theory (why court situations happen), point construction and shot combinations. Anyone can hit a good shot, but to know when and where to hit a certain shot is the key to becoming a solid player.
Habitat: What advice do you have for an up and coming player?
Kevin: Read, watch and listen to match commentary. Be a good listener. Understand who is doing what to whom and why it is happening. Above all, have drive and focus. That’s how you become better in anything.
Habitat: Thanks, Kevin.
