    Sunset Park

    Sunset Park -

Located a stone’s throw from McCarran Airport, Sunset park offers one of the largest public facilities in Las Vegas. Offering 8 courts for use, Sunset Park is the only facility in the valley using rebound ace technology. The downside – the courts are pretty worn out due to high traffic. Do not despair, however. Resurfacing is scheduled later this season. One other plus for Sunset is the lighting-much brighter than Henderson’s public courts.

    • Available Courts- 8
    • Surface- Hard (Rebound Ace)
    • Lighting- Yes
    • Court Fees- $3.00/day $5.00/night
    • Reservations- Yes-(recommended not necessary)
    • Court Speed- Slow

These courts are in rough shape as mentioned. Watch out for serious cracks in the surface. The court gets slippery as well if the surface breaks up and will turn powdery on the other part of the surface. Also... where the surface is missing its slippery as well. Be careful on these courts. Also... I dont recall ever paying those court fees. Could be outdated.

Barrett is correct about the court conditions - but only for the top 4 courts. The lower 4 have just been resurfaced and play quite well. A pro that works out of there told me the other courts will be resurfaced soon, however the city is running out of money so who knows :-(

Ahh great to know! I havent been over there since almost blowing out my knee. Maybe I will go over and check out the new resurfacing. Thanks for the update!

Even though the lower 4 courts have been resurfaced they still have dead spots. They are definitely better than they were, however I still will not call this place "home"

I agree with Barrett. The courts here are much better than they were but still not great. It seems they were not as careful as they should have been.

I hate to pour it on... But this place could also use some lighting repairs. Most of the lights work, but some do not and really cause some areas of dead to no light.

The courts have been resurfaced and all of the lights are working. The Park is putting together a very nice tennis program since the hiring of tennis pro Mark Feinsod. Mark has worked with my kids and has done a great job. i highly suggest you go there and work with him. The price is right. Good Job Las Vegas and hiring a tennis pro like Mark who will put together a great program at Sunset Park.

I know Mark Personally and I am very happy for him and for the city of las vegas. He will take sunset park to the next level. He did a great job with my juniors in new york. I can only imagine how he will help the tennis world in las vegas. I will be in las vegas in april and will make my first vist to sunset park to play with mark.

Courts are horrible. However you do get the US open feel with the planes flying overhead. Consider these the courts of last resort.

UPDATE: Played these courts a few weeks back. They are in rough shape AGAIN. Maybe consider going with a different surface as this one does not seem to hold up. The only real advantage of going here now is that there is 8 courts. So you either have a short wait or get right on. I would look elsewhere before choosing these courts.

they don't look bad at all to me. but the parks and rec need to add windscreens and power wash the courts on a regular basis so the dust and dirt are removed from the courts. if the city ever gets to it. the current lighting should be replaced with solar powered lighting systems.

The courts cannot be powerwashed due to the surface, We do our best to maintain them and keep them clean. These courts are used all day and night. I do agree that they need to be cleaned everyday but the surface cannot take a cleaning everyday. It is a very sensitive surface. It serves it purpose. I would like to see a better suface on these courts to make them easier to maintain and keep them looking healthy.

i did see maintenance clean them on a daily basis when i was there, but not really powerwash but a waterbroom. i'm sure it can handle the pressure off a waterbroom since it doesn't take much. maybe on a weekly basis. perhaps adding court fees to help raise money for improvements to the surface ,lighting and windscreens should be implemented. or start taking memberships. unless a grant can be given to the facility by the USTA or something. it is a very popular facility and should be the best on that side of town.
am i being critical when i say this? granted the facility manager can do so much but without the support of the city parks and rec, this might end up being a so so facility
    PS: the reply is appreciated
